I've been lax in updating this blog lately, I'm afraid. (Most of my updates have ended up on my Facebook page instead.) But I have some pretty good excuses, really. My husband was deployed to Afghanistan in August, and I was working full-time, taking care of our 3-year-old and pregnant with our second son. Aaron was born in late December, and Judah returned home at the beginning of March. At the reunion at Camp Lejeune, N.C., I mostly tried to just be in the moment, but I had my camera, and once the baby was in my husband's arms instead of mine, I had to take that moment in through the viewfinder, too.

April's theme at I Heart Faces is "Happiness," and this is that moment for me. Finally getting to see these two faces together in person, instead of over Skype. (I do wish I had my own photos of when our 3-year-old was reunited with his Daddy, but I was just taking it all in at that point. That one's in the memory bank instead of on the memory card. I can live with that.)

J & M's wedding https://sarahkelber.zenfolio.com/blog/2011/4/j-ms-wedding Last month, I had the opportunity to attend the wedding of our friends J & M. They had a wedding that included both Jewish and Marine Corps traditions. It was a ton of fun. My husband finally got his dress blues and the chance to don his personalized sword. I managed to snag some shots from my seat in the audience:

The importance of family photography https://sarahkelber.zenfolio.com/blog/2011/4/the-importance-of-family-photography A few weeks back, my family gathered to say goodbye to my grandfather Selton. He was nearing his 91st birthday, and after breaking his hip, he had a tough time recovering from surgery. It was my first loss in my immediate family in quite a long time, and it also brought back a barrage of emotions from when we lost my grandmother Helen far too young, back in 1987.My dad's cousin brought us a copy of this Kickler family photo, which is from the mid- to late-1930s. Granddaddy is the one on the far right, with the dog jumping on him. There is so much personality just bursting out of this picture. I almost don't have words to communicate how much comfort and joy this photo brought us in a time of sorrow. And don't you think everyone in this picture looks like they're up to something? I love it.
